LABUAN, Oct 7 (Bernama) -- The RM9 million Communications Ministry Complex here reflects the government’s commitment to providing better facilities and a conducive working environment for personnel of agencies under the ministry, Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil said.
He said proper infrastructure was important not only for the comfort and welfare of personnel but also to enable them to discharge their responsibilities more effectively in delivering information and services to the public.
“This complex demonstrates the government’s seriousness in providing a conducive working environment and suitable facilities for personnel to carry out their duties.
“When we provide a good workplace and the necessary facilities, we also hope that this will help our personnel perform their responsibilities more effectively and provide the best service to the people,” he said when launching the complex at Jalan Tanjung Taras here today.
Also present were Communications Ministry secretary-general Datuk Abdul Halim Hamzah, Information Department director-general Erwin Khairul Ahmad, and Bernama News Services deputy editor-in-chief Mohd Shukri Ishak.
The complex, which was completed in 2019, houses several agencies under the Communications Ministry, including the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama), Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM), the Information Department (JaPen) and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
Fahmi said having the ministry’s agencies operating within the same complex would also facilitate closer coordination and cooperation, particularly in disseminating official information, news and broadcasting content to the community.
He said agencies under the ministry have an important responsibility to ensure that the public received information that was accurate, reliable and easy to understand.
The minister had previously stressed that clear and effective communication was crucial in helping the public understand government policies, programmes and issues of public interest, while reducing the risk of confusion and misinformation.
Fahmi said the government would continue to pay attention to the infrastructure and facility requirements of agencies under the ministry to ensure their operations could be carried out effectively.
He said maintaining a comfortable and conducive workplace was also important in supporting the welfare and productivity of personnel, particularly those serving in areas outside the peninsula.
Strengthening the government’s strategic communications has also been identified as one of the Communications Ministry’s priorities, including ensuring that government initiatives and programmes are communicated more widely and effectively to the people.
Meanwhile, Fahmi said the presence of Bernama, RTM, JaPen and MCMC at the complex would help strengthen cooperation among the ministry’s agencies in Labuan and enhance the delivery of information and communication services to the local community.
