LABUAN, Oct 5 (Bernama) -- Most parts of this duty-free island have been experiencing water supply disruptions since yesterday following repair work on a raw water pump at the Lawa Gadong Water Treatment Plant in Beaufort, Sabah.
Labuan Water Supply Department director Trinil Indah Puspita said all areas were affected except the Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) District Metering Area (DMA).
She said repairs to the raw water pump, which supplies Labuan’s main source of water, were still under way due to technical requirements at the site.
“As of 6 pm yesterday, the repair works were about 60 per cent complete. During the process, the technical team found that the pump bearing needed to be dismantled before cleaning and further inspection,” she told Bernama today.
Trinil said the additional step was necessary to ensure the repairs could be completed properly and that all technical requirements were met before the system could be restored to normal operations.
“The plant operator was making every effort to expedite the repair works without compromising the quality and safety of the work.
“Further updates on the progress of the repairs and restoration of water supply will be issued from time to time,” she said.
She expressed appreciation for the patience, cooperation and understanding of consumers affected by the disruption.
