KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 28 (Bernama) -- Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has called Malaysia's showing at the WorldSkills Competition (WSC) Shanghai 2026 the country's best since its 1995 debut.
He said the achievement proved that Malaysian talent and skills can compete with the best on the world stage.
"Congratulations to the entire Malaysian contingent on an immensely proud achievement at WorldSkills Shanghai 2026.
"I extend special praise to Sia Xin Wan, who delivered a bronze medal in the Software Testing category and received the Best of Nation award, as well as to the 13 other participants who won Medallions for Excellence in their respective fields," he said in a Facebook post today.
Ahmad Zahid also extended his appreciation to the coaches, experts, families, institutions and everyone who worked behind the scenes for the competition.
"Keep pushing forward and bring glory to the nation. Malaysia is proud of all of you," he said.
The Malaysian contingent, represented by 22 participants, competed in 21 skill areas spanning various technical sectors under the purview of the Department of Skills Development and the Ministry of Works.
WSC Shanghai 2026, held from Sept 22 to 27, brought together 1,400 of the best young skilled professionals from 65 countries and regions, representing 64 skill areas.
