KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 21 (Bernama) -- The Malaysia SEA Games and ASEAN Para Games Organising Committee (MASOC) 2027 has partnered with Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) 2026 to promote next year’s regional sporting events, including by sponsoring the race’s King of Sprint jersey.
MASOC 2027 Secretariat chief executive officer Datuk Abdul Rashid Yaakub said the partnership would use the prestigious cycling race as a platform to expand the SEA Games' and ASEAN Para Games' domestic and international exposure.
He said the collaboration was part of efforts to step up promotion of both Games, which are scheduled to take place in Malaysia next year.
MASOC 2027 needed effective promotional platforms through integrated marketing solutions as it prepares to plan, coordinate and deliver Southeast Asia’s largest multi-sport event, he said.
“We decided on this collaboration based on the comprehensive sponsorship package, particularly the opportunity to promote the SEA Games and ASEAN Para Games globally through international television broadcasts.
“This is in line with our mission to ensure that our neighbours in Southeast Asia, in particular, are made aware of the Games while watching what I consider one of Asia’s biggest cycling races,” he said at the announcement of the partnership here today.
Also present were National Sports Council (NSC) Event and Sports Management Division director Safrushahar Mohd Yusoff and LTdL 2026 Secretariat chief operating officer Emir Abdul Jalal.
Abdul Rashid said LTdL also offered a unique and effective platform for domestic promotion.
“Besides full live television coverage and exposure on Astro Arena, Facebook and YouTube, promotional programmes along the route, such as the Cavalcade and Voice of LTdL competition, which attract tens of thousands of Malaysians, will provide extensive and cost-effective exposure nationwide.
“The SEA Games and ASEAN Para Games 2027 branding will also feature on one of LTdL 2026’s main jerseys, the King of Sprint jersey,” he said.
Meanwhile, Safrushahar said the NSC welcomed MASOC’s decision to collaborate with LTdL 2026 as part of preparations for the 2027 SEA Games and ASEAN Para Games.
He said the council had agreed for the Games to be promoted through branding on the King of Sprint jersey.
“We are confident MASOC will see significant returns from this collaboration, particularly through broadcasts and exposure across various channels, including Icarus Sports internationally.
“Every day, cameras will focus on the battle for points in the King of Sprint classification, whether at the sprint zones or the finish line, right through to the final day of Stage 8 in Putrajaya,” he said.
The 30th edition of LTdL will begin with the Shah Alam-Kampar Stage 1 on Sunday and conclude with Stage 8 from Muar to Putrajaya on Oct 4, covering a total distance of 1,285.5km.
A total of 20 teams - two WorldTeams, eight ProTeams, nine Continental teams and the Malaysian national team - will compete in this year’s race.
