KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 20 (Bernama) -- The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) has identified two big local companies as potential sponsors and expects to sign memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with both soon, said FAM Executive Committee member Datuk Syed Mahadi Syed Hassan.
Syed Mahadi, who chairs the FAM Media and Marketing Committee, said both companies had given their commitment, with discussions now at the stage of finalising the MoUs.
“In the near future, we will have new sponsors that we have identified, sponsors who have already given their commitment. Insya-Allah, we will sign MoUs with the new sponsors soon,” he told a gathering with media practitioners here last night, without disclosing the names of the companies.
He explained that the sponsorships would involve both FAM and the Harimau Malaya squad.
When asked about claims that several sponsors had withdrawn, Syed Mahadi said he had yet to receive clear information and was unaware of any official withdrawals.
Meanwhile, he said FAM wanted to dismantle the culture of working in silos by coordinating its media, marketing, communications, digital and commercial operations as one team.
He said a more structured and integrated approach was important to ensure the association’s efforts had an impact on fans and helped elevate the image of Malaysian football.
“FAM and Malaysian football can only achieve greater heights if we start fostering a culture of teamwork and stop adopting an in-silo mentality,” he said.
He said the media’s role was not merely to disseminate news and information, but also to shape perceptions and influence public opinion.
According to him, FAM viewed the media as a strategic partner in efforts to build confidence, strengthen its image and enhance the standing of Malaysian football.
He also welcomed views, suggestions and constructive criticism from media practitioners as part of FAM’s efforts to address its shortcomings and improve its administration.
Syed Mahadi, who is the Star City chief executive officer, was elected to the FAM Executive Committee for the remainder of the 2025-2029 term at the Second 2026 FAM Extraordinary Congress last September, before being entrusted with leading the Media and Marketing portfolio.
