New-generation MyKad No Longer Comes With Touch ’n Go Facility

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 17 (Bernama) -- The new-generation MyKad, which started being issued today, no longer comes with the Touch ’n Go facility.

In a social media post, the National Registration Department (JPN) said users can still access the service through the Touch ’n Go eWallet or a separate Touch ’n Go card.

“For users who wish to continue using Touch ’n Go services, the facility can be accessed through the Touch ’n Go eWallet or a separate Touch ’n Go card,” it said.

According to JPN, the new-generation MyKad focuses on its primary function as the country’s official identity document, while incorporating enhanced security and technological features.

Equipped with 53 security features, the new-generation MyKad includes enhanced security elements such as a Dynamic Security Hologram and a transparent window on the front, as well as an Enforcement QR Code and a Dual-Function Interface Chip on the back.

The new MyKad is also expected to have enhanced identity verification capabilities while reducing the risk of forgery and misuse of identity documents.

JPN said the transparent window feature strengthens protection against forgery, while the QR code supports verification and enforcement requirements.

Meanwhile, the Dynamic Security Hologram displays a three-dimensional image that changes according to the viewing angle and lighting, while the UV feature reveals specific security elements that are only visible under ultraviolet light.

Guilloche patterns and microtext have also been incorporated as additional security features, while the polycarbonate layer makes the MyKad more resistant to heat and chemicals, thereby enhancing the card’s durability.

Applications for the new-generation MyKad can be made at 40 JPN branches equipped with printing facilities, where the cards can be issued on the same day.

At JPN branches without printing facilities, applications for the new-generation MyKad can still be made, with the cards ready within five working days.
