Rukun Negara Oratory Contest Draws Record 10,494 Entries, Reflects Youths' Growing Interest

MELAKA, Sept 15 (Bernama) -- The national-level Rukun Negara Oratory Competition has attracted a record of 10,494 participants this year, reflecting growing interest among young Malaysians in understanding, embracing and articulating the national principles.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said participation rose from 9,312 last year, surpassing the five-digit mark for the first time.

“To me, the figure of 10,494 is more than just a new record. It is a clear sign that the Rukun Negara remains firmly rooted in the hearts of young Malaysians.

“They want to understand it. They want to embrace it and, most importantly, they have the courage to speak about it,” he said at the final of the 2026 Rukun Negara Oratory Competition for the Melaka Governor’s Challenge Trophy at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC) here today.

Melaka Governor Tun Dr Mohd Ali Mohd Rustam and Deputy National Unity Minister Yuneswaran Ramaraj were also present.

Ab Rauf said this year’s competition attracted participants from every state, from Perlis to Johor as well as Sabah and Sarawak.

He said the initiative, which began in Melaka six years ago, had grown into a national movement bringing together young Malaysians to articulate the meaning of unity, stability and the country’s future.

In recognition of the strong response, the state government had expanded its grants for institutions with the highest participation to include the top three schools and educational institutions.

“This reflects the state government’s appreciation for educators who work tirelessly to build character, instil love for the country and bring the principles of Rukun Negara to life in the hearts of young Malaysians,” he said.
