Ekosistem Warisan Negara Project Launched To Ease Cost Of Living Pressures

MELAKA, Aug 31 (Bernama) -- The Ekosistem Warisan Negara project was launched today in conjunction with Malaysia's 69th National Day celebrations to build a sustainable local economic ecosystem aimed at easing cost of living pressures.

The initiative, led by former Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department (KDNKA) director Datuk Seri Azmi Abu Kassim, would initially focus on basic necessity sectors, including retail, before expanding in phases to healthcare, education and daily living services.

Azmi said the initiative was crucial, as global fuel supply uncertainties could potentially push up goods costs and add further pressure to household expenses.

"We have a responsibility to work together with other organisations and the private sector to play a more active role alongside the government in addressing cost of living issues," he said in a statement here today.

He said solutions to cost of living issues could not rely solely on government subsidies, particularly when goods and supply costs continued to fluctuate due to global market factors.

According to Azmi, the initiative will begin in Melaka, focusing initially on strengthening local grocery stores, particularly in rural areas, through supply coordination, inventory management and operational support.

He said establishing a stronger retail network was expected to help small shop owners boost competitiveness and gain access to supplies at better prices.

"This approach aims to help small shop owners enhance competitiveness, secure better supply prices, and create a more stable foundation to help control prices of daily necessities for consumers.

"The ecosystem will then be expanded in phases to other sectors directly impacting the public's quality of life and cost of living, including healthcare and education," he said.

The initiative was also welcomed by Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh, in line with the state government's emphasis on public welfare and interests.

Detailed information regarding the implementation, facilities and progress of the Ekosistem Warisan Negara initiative will be announced in phases starting today through its official social media channels.
