KLANG, Aug 30 (Bernama) -- GM Klang is lighting up the city’s night scene with Terang Kentara, a large-scale projection mapping performance combining digital art, visual technology and local identity on the facade of Block B here.
Alongside the projection mapping performance, the shopping mall is introducing Port Seni at Pavilion 5, Block C, a creative hub that brings together art, culture, creative entrepreneurship and the local community.
GM Klang managing director Datuk Lim Seng Kok said the two initiatives were part of the mall’s efforts to turn its commercial spaces into platforms for showcasing local creativity while enhancing the visitor experience.
“For us, the true value of Terang Kentara lies not merely in the scale of the projection mapping, but in how technology can be harnessed to showcase local creativity.
“Presenting children’s work on the facade of a building for the community to enjoy shows that commercial spaces can also provide a platform to celebrate local talent, stories and identity,” he said at the launch of Terang Kentara: Large-Scale Projection Mapping Presentation 2026 at Dataran GM Klang last night.
Terang Kentara showcases 40 children’s artworks through the Terang Junior programme themed “Surprising Selangor”, with drawings on paper transformed into digital visuals and projected onto the facade of GM Klang.
Other attractions include food trucks, creative workshops, interactive activities, cultural performances and community stalls.
The event, held in conjunction with Visit Malaysia Year 2026 and Visit Selangor Year 2026, is open to the public free of charge until Sept 13, with performances from 8 pm to 10 pm at Dataran GM Klang, Bandar Botanik.
Lim said that as the tourism ambassador for Klang, GM Klang seeks to boost the city’s appeal by blending heritage and local identity with contemporary experiences such as Terang Kentara.
“Contemporary experiences such as Terang Kentara can complement these strengths by giving the community new reasons to explore Klang, while encouraging visits, local activities and economic growth in the surrounding area,” he said.
Commenting on Port Seni, Lim said the space was created to connect creativity, heritage and trade by bringing together local artisans and entrepreneurs, while providing arts practitioners with opportunities to introduce their brands, gauge market response and forge new collaborations.
He said Port Seni would feature activities such as art exhibitions, interactive workshops, creative demonstrations and weekly bazaars, offering the creative community greater opportunities to showcase their work and tap into new markets.
Meanwhile, Tourism Selangor chief executive officer Chua Yee Ling said the GM Klang initiative would not only enhance Selangor’s tourism offerings through technology-driven creative experiences, but also benefit the local community.
He said art could help define a destination’s identity, while the tourism sector offered an important platform for artists to showcase their work to a wider audience.
“The tourism sector and the creative sector have a very close relationship. Art can help shape a destination’s identity, while tourism provides an important platform for artists to showcase their work. Bringing the two together can open up more opportunities for the local community,” she said.
