PUTRAJAYA, Aug 27 (Bernama) -- Ten #GenBajet2027 finalists have put forward ideas and solutions across seven youth thrusts that could contribute to the formulation of Budget 2027, particularly in strengthening Bumiputera socio-economic development.

Economy Minister Datuk Seri Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir said the initiative demonstrated youths’ ability to understand current challenges and offer practical solutions relevant to the country’s economic needs.

“Of the 90 entries received, 10 of the best ideas were selected for the final stage of #GenBajet2027.

“This shows that young people not only understand the challenges they face but are also capable of proposing practical and relevant solutions to the country’s economic needs,” he said in a statement today.

Akmal Nasrullah said #GenBajet2027 highlighted the important role of youths in bringing new ideas and perspectives to national policy formulation, in line with the aspirations of the Bumiputera Economic Transformation Plan 2035 (PuTERA35).

“Youths should not be viewed merely as beneficiaries of policies, but as partners in shaping the future of Malaysia’s economy.

“Their views on areas such as Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), entrepreneurship, digitalisation, social protection and asset ownership are crucial in helping the government formulate responsive, inclusive and forward-looking policies in line with the aspirations of PuTERA35,” he said.

Meanwhile, Unit Peneraju Agenda Bumiputera’s (TERAJU) Strategic Services Division senior director Nik Nazree Nik Abdul Rahman said #GenBajet2027 was more than a competition, providing a platform to build youths’ confidence and capabilities in contributing to the economic development agenda.

He said #GenBajet2027 provided a platform for young people to critically examine the challenges they face and propose solutions that could have a meaningful impact.

“We see the courage and creativity of the participants in presenting ideas, particularly under seven thrusts closely related to youth development and the future of Bumiputeras,” he said, adding that youth participation was crucial to ensuring the Bumiputera economic transformation agenda remained relevant to the changing economic landscape and the needs of future generations.

At the event held yesterday, Ahmad Huzairy Zaharuddin of Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) won first place with his MySkill ID proposal, a National Digital Skills Asset Account based on Artificial Intelligence (AI), and received RM5,000.

Ahmad Muqri Johari Abdul Mukmin of Universiti Malaya (UM) and Ahmad Fariz Soon Muhammad Zulkifli Soon of Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) took second and third place, receiving RM3,000 and RM2,000 respectively.

All #GenBajet2027 participants were presented with RM100 each in appreciation of their participation.
