Hainan Daily Press Group Eyes Stronger Collaboration With Bernama

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 27 (Bernama) -- Hainan Daily Press Group is keen on strengthening its collaboration with the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) to promote greater understanding of Hainan and China among Malaysians, its president Shang Lin said.

He said the collaboration can help disseminate information about Hainan's economy, culture, and ecology and encourage more people to travel there, shop, and take in its beautiful scenery.

“We also hope to encourage more Chinese and Hainan tourists to visit Malaysia and experience its unique culture, cuisine, and scenery here,” he said at the launch ceremony of the documentary 2026: Towards the Hainan Free Trade Port at Wisma Bernama, here Thursday.

The documentary was produced by the Bernama TV production team with support from the Hainan International Media Centre (HIMC), a unit under the Hainan Daily Press Group.

It was jointly launched by Bernama chairman Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai and Shang Lin, and features key locations such as Yangpu Port, Sanya International Yacht Centre, Hainan Boao Lecheng International Medical Tourism Pilot Zone, Haikou Qilou Old Street, and Xinglong Coffee Culture Park.

Shang Lin said this year’s collaboration focused on economy and trade, and highlighted how economic development could bring complementary opportunities to businesses in both countries.

He pointed out that since Hainan began its island-wide independent customs regime last year, many changes and a series of new policies have brought about improvements in various industries, including the business environment.

“Last year, we focused more on showcasing cultural aspects, including cuisine and the unique characteristics of each region, as well as the similarities between our two places, such as the arcade buildings, the Peranakan culture, and the historical connections to bridge construction,” he said, referring to the 2025 co-produced documentary Charming Hainan, Enchanting Malaysia.

Shang Lin expressed confidence in continuing the in-depth and strategic cooperation with Bernama and said he looked forward to more seasons of the documentary.
