The achievement marked a successful international debut for the troupe, established by the Labuan Youth Council (MBL), which competed against 144 entries from 10 countries and territories.

India recorded the highest number of entries with 47, followed by Malaysia (40), Mongolia (21), Indonesia (18), Qatar (six), South Korea (five), Russia (three), Hong Kong, China (two), the Philippines (one) and Singapore (one).

The 13-member Labuan delegation comprised nine dancers, a team manager, a choreographer and three support crew members.

The troupe presented a creative interpretation of traditional Brunei dance, blending authentic movements with modern choreography and contemporary ethnic elements while preserving its cultural identity.

MBL president Nazera Roslan said the victory demonstrated the ability, creativity and potential of Labuan's young talents to compete internationally.

"Winning gold in the Folklore category on our debut is particularly meaningful for Labuan Youth Dansa and MBL. It is not just a victory but proof that our local arts and cultural heritage have the appeal to be showcased on the world stage.

"We hope this achievement will inspire more young people to develop their talents in the arts and cultural fields," she said to Bernama today.

Meanwhile, choreographer Dafi Chua said the success was the result of the team's commitment, discipline, and cooperation in combining traditional Brunei dance movements with modern elements without compromising its original identity.

The council also thanked the delegation, management team, choreographer, dancers, support crew and sponsors, particularly Labuan Corporation, for their support.

It hoped the achievement would inspire more young talents from Labuan to pursue opportunities and showcase their abilities at national and international levels.
