OTTAWA, Aug 25 (Bernama-Xinhua) -- Canada on Tuesday announced retaliatory tariffs of 15 per cent, 25 per cent and 50 per cent respectively against United States (US) goods in escalating trade tensions with its neighbour, reported Xinhua.
According to a government statement, the counter tariffs target more than 700 US goods worth about US$20 billion in total. The new tariffs will take effect on Sept. 8.
The move is in response to the US 50-per cent tariffs on US$20 billion worth of Canadian goods that took effect over the weekend.
Earlier, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said Ottawa would retaliate "dollar-for-dollar" with tariffs starting Sept. 8.
