Canada Launches National Council On Artificial Intelligence

WASHINGTON, Oct 3 (Bernama-Anadolu) -- Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced Friday the creation of a national artificial intelligence council to advise the government on the country's rapidly evolving AI landscape, Anadolu Ajansi (AA) reported.

The National Council on Artificial Intelligence will bring together leaders from government, business, academia, research and the technology sector to advise the federal government on its AI for All national strategy.

The Prime Minister's Office said the strategy is designed to promote responsible AI adoption while strengthening Canada's technological sovereignty, expanding economic opportunities and building public trust in artificial intelligence.

The council will advise on accelerating AI adoption, developing Canadian AI companies, expanding sovereign AI infrastructure and improving the safety and oversight of emerging technologies, according to the Prime Minister's Office.

Its members will also examine how AI can strengthen public services, support economic growth and create opportunities for Canadians while addressing potential risks to democracy and society, it said.

"Prosperity and sovereignty in the age of AI belong to nations that can build, adopt, and govern AI on their own terms. This is Canada's mission, and it will require expertise and leadership from across the field.

"The new National Council on Artificial Intelligence will inform and advise the government on how to most effectively deploy AI in Canada, how to manage the risks, seize the opportunities, and ensure AI is used to improve the lives of all Canadians," Carney said in a statement.
