KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 23 (Bernama) -- The 2026 Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang (KMJG) X JAGO programme for the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya kicked off today in an effort to foster patriotism in conjunction with National Month.
Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil said the convoy, which began at Taman Seri Sentosa Market in Lembah Pantai, would visit six locations around the capital today.
“Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang will make six stops across Kuala Lumpur, including Taman Tasik Metropolitan Kepong, Taman Tun Dr Ismail Market and Seputeh Fire and Rescue Station.
“(It will then stop) at Cheras Rehabilitation Hospital, Petronas Cochrane Perkasa and end at NZ Curry House Wangsa Maju,” he said when met by the media before the flag-off ceremony for the programme.
Fahmi, who is also the Lembah Pantai Member of Parliament, said this year’s edition involved about 35 participants and 10 government agency vehicles.
These included the Information Department (JAPEN), Royal Malaysia Police, Road Transport Department, Kuala Lumpur City Hall, Radio Television Malaysia, Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) and Fire and Rescue Department.
One of the main attractions of this year’s programme is the use of the JAGO (JAPEN Arena Penggerak Komuniti) Multi-Functional Vehicle, which is equipped with a giant LED screen to play patriotic songs throughout the tour.
Fahmi said the programme also serves as a platform to engage with the community through various activities encouraging local participation.
“At every stop, 1 Rumah 1 Jalur Gemilang kits will be distributed to cluster representatives, alongside the distribution of Jalur Gemilang flags to the public, cultural performances, patriotic song performances and civic quizzes.
“This is among the programmes aimed at further fostering love for the country, providing activities for the community, including the MADANI Community, and strengthening ties among various communities. I believe this will help strengthen love for the country and further foster patriotism in conjunction with National Month,” he said.
Earlier, Fahmi presented Jalur Gemilang kits to Taman Seri Sentosa MADANI Community head Mohammad Sarizal Mohd Ali and distributed Jalur Gemilang flags to visitors to enliven the 1 Rumah 1 Jalur Gemilang (1R1JG) campaign in conjunction with the 2026 National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations.
The programme, organised by the Information Department of the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya (WPKLP), is an integrated outreach initiative aimed at encouraging the practice of flying the Jalur Gemilang as a symbol of national unity and pride.
The closing ceremony at the final location, NZ Curry House in Wangsa Maju, will be officiated by WPKLP Information Department director Normaizatulakmal Tujad and attended by Setiawangsa Zone Federal Territory Residents’ Representative Council chairman Datuk Afdlin Shauki Aksan.
Various cultural activities are also scheduled to take place at the venue, including kompang, Indian drum and Chinese drum performances, as well as the presentation of Jalur Gemilang kits and a PENTARAMA @JAGO performance.
