KUALA NERUS, Aug 17 (Bernama) -- A total of 14 projects, worth RM34 million, for the Ministry of Education (MOE) in Terengganu have been completed ahead of time (AOT), said Deputy Works Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Maslan.

He said this achievement represents a part of the efforts of the Public Works Department (JKR) to ensure that the development and maintenance projects of educational facilities in the state are completed within the stipulated time or earlier

“For your information, all the Education Ministry’s projects in Terengganu, managed and overseen by the JKR this year, amount to 111 projects with a total value of RM302 million. We are working to ensure that all these projects are completed ahead of schedule," he said.

Ahmad said this to reporters after the handover ceremony for Projects Completed Ahead of Time by the Terengganu JKR to the MOE, officiated by the Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Tok Jembal here today.

The deputy minister said some of the JKR efforts involve maintaining and constructing educational facilities to ensure that these facilities can be used according to need.

He said that the use of modular methods and the Industrialised Building System (IBS) were among the main factors that contributed to the project being completed earlier.

"Additionally, it is also due to the efficiency of JKR officers at the district, state, and central levels who ensure that all projects for the benefit of the people can be implemented well. Schools will open at the beginning of next year, so all the work needs to be completed this year as well," he said.

He said the third factor is the selection of contractors with a good track record to ensure the smooth and timely execution of the project.

"We do not choose problematic contractors. That is one of the three main reasons the project was completed ahead of schedule," he said.

In a statement, the Malaysian JKR said that the success of completing the project AOT allows the facilities and learning spaces to be used immediately by the school, thereby optimising the smoothness of the teaching and learning process.

The statement also noted that overall, the Terengganu JKR is currently overseeing 111 MOE projects worth RM302 million, which include the construction of covered open-sided multi-purpose halls under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) and 13MP, the programme to address high-density school issues, and the integrated maintenance of existing infrastructure.

The scope also includes the construction of additional classrooms through the Quick Win Cakna MADANI Initiative, which uses modular and IBS methods as a strategic preparation for the entry of Year One students for the 2027 school session.

According to the statement, from January 2025 to August 2026, the Terengganu JKR had completed 37 projects worth RM85 million, with a cumulative early completion record of 2,697 days, meaning each project was completed on an average of 72 days ahead of schedule.

The statement said that the achievement is seen as important in supporting the government's target to realise the single-session school policy by 2030, particularly through the provision of sufficient and quality educational infrastructure.

The JKR said that the success in adhering to the timeline and quality of the project also reflects the level of public governance efficiency and the transparency of allocation management in line with the aspirations of the MADANI Government.

The statement also said that the close cooperation between the JKR and MOE will continue to be strengthened to ensure that the provision of sustainable, safe, and high-quality educational infrastructure remains a priority in supporting the nation's human capital development.
