MACC Proposes Governance Improvements For FELDA, Two Subsidiaries

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 30 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has proposed governance improvements to the Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) and two of its subsidiaries to strengthen the management of two projects under the agency.

In a statement today, MACC said the subsidiaries involved were FIC Supplies Sdn Bhd (FIC Supplies) and FIC Integrated Property Management (FIC IPM).

The recommendations were put forward by MACC’s Governance Investigation Division (BPT) to enhance governance in the implementation of the Agro Park (Commercial) Project and the Cattle Trading Pilot Project.

Among the recommendations for Felda was the restructuring of FIC IPM’s role as an independent advisory panel to ensure that all views and advice provided are objective, transparent and free from conflicts of interest.

“MACC BPT also recommended that Felda strengthen its procurement and transaction management procedures by establishing specific Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for procurement methods involving request for proposal (RFP) and variation orders,” the statement said.

MACC said the measures were important to ensure that the processes were carried out consistently, systematically and transparently in line with established regulations and internal controls.

The recommendations also include improving existing procedures related to FIC Supplies’ sales and purchase activities to strengthen controls and governance in the company’s transactions.

The proposals were presented by MACC BPT deputy director I Maznah Che Muda at Menara Felda here on Monday.

Meanwhile, Felda and its subsidiaries welcomed the recommendations to strengthen governance, transparency and integrity within the agency, while expressing their commitment to implement them in stages.

The agreement to adopt the recommendations was formalised through the Governance Improvement Report signed by Felda deputy director-general (Corporate Services) Muhammad Fitri Othman, FIC Group chief executive officer Syed Fadil Syed Sofi and MACC BPT director Datuk Mohd Zaki Hassan.
