LIPIS, Nov 6 (Bernama) -- The Tengku Ampuan of Pahang, Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, launched the National Occupational Skills Standards (NOSS) for Culinary Arts and Gastronomy here today.
Her Royal Highness was received by Deputy Minister of Human Resources Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Mohamad, who is also the Lipis Member of Parliament, and State Agriculture, Agro-based Industry, Biotechnology and Education Committee chairman Datuk Seri Mohd Soffi Abd Razak.
Speaking at the launch, Tunku Azizah remarked that the uniqueness of Malaysian cuisine, born out of the nation’s cultural diversity, is truly special and deserves global recognition.
“Our cuisine also features many healthy dishes such as kerabu, which uses no oil, and dishes that are grilled, boiled or smoked, all of which are nutritious. We need a new strategy to highlight that Malaysian food is, in fact, healthy,” she said.
Her Royal Highness also shared that she will be publishing a book on healthy traditional Malay cuisine from Pahang and dishes from the palace kitchen.
At the event, Tunku Azizah spent time visiting the exhibition booths and presented certificates of appreciation to members of the NOSS development panel.
The programme was attended by more than 300 students and culinary industry practitioners, including professional chefs, nationwide.
Organised by the Human Resources Ministry (KESUMA), through the Department of Skills Development (JPK), the programme serves as a platform to bring skills development aspirations closer to the people.
It also highlights JPK’s role in empowering Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), particularly in culinary arts and gastronomy, while creating awareness of the career opportunities available in these fields.
