BATU PAHAT, Feb 15 (Bernama) -- Existing local imams will lead Tarawih prayers at mosques and suraus across Johor this Ramadan, said State Islamic Affairs Committee chairman Mohd Fared Mohd Khalid.

At the same time, he said eligible tahfiz students in the state may also lead Tarawih prayers, provided they meet the requirements set by the Johor Islamic Religious Department (JAINJ), with applications still open until tomorrow.

“As in previous years, Tarawih prayers will be conducted by local imams, as Johor does not engage imams from outside the state.

“We will also invite tahfiz students, but they must meet the requirements set by JAINJ,” he told reporters after attending the Budi Plantation Sector Agricommodity Programme in Parit Sulong here today.

Meanwhile, Mohd Fared said the state government would work with local authorities to enforce regulations related to the sale of food to Muslims during Ramadan.

“This enforcement is not meant to stop them from doing business, but traders must sell food only during the specified hours and not outside the permitted times, such as during breakfast,” he said.
