GUA MUSANG, Feb 15 (Bernama) -- A total of 2,500 fresh chickens and 1,000 trays of eggs were sold out within an hour during the Rahmah Sale and Program Jualan Ambang Ramadan in Bandar Utama here today.
A resident of the Renok Baru Land Development Plan (RKT), Shamsuddin Yaacob, 69, said he and his wife did not miss the opportunity to get several chickens, beef, and other basic food items at reasonable prices.
He said he was among the last customers to buy the fresh dishes before they were sold out to customers who had arrived earlier during the event.
"This programme started at 2 pm, but I arrived a bit late because the distance from my house to the sales location is almost 20 minutes.
"I found that the tent selling chicken attracted the most crowd because everyone didn't want to miss out on buying chicken that usually cost almost RM50 for two, but today they were sold for only RM20," he said when met by reporters.
Commenting further, Shamsuddin said eggs were also sold at RM10 per dozen, while local beef was priced at RM24 per kilogramme.
Rahmah Sales manager Dek Shazlina Zakaria said this programme has had a positive impact in alleviating the people’s burden of high living costs, especially for the B40 group.
"Although the sales period was only for three hours and ended at 5 pm, almost half of the sales items were snapped up in a short period. I hope programmes like these will continue to be held in future," she said
Meanwhile, Galas assemblyman Datuk Mohd Syahbuddin Hashim said the sale is an initiative to help the people plan their finances so as not to be burdened and to prepare for Ramadan.
It is estimated that 5,000 families from various ethnicities benefitted from this programme organised by the Galas constituency service centre, and the MADANI Rahmah Sales team also participated in it.
"In addition to chicken and meat, we also provided various types of seafood, eggs, cooking oil, wheat flour, sugar, and other basic food, including vegetables and fruits. All of these were sold at a discount of 30 to 50 per cent off the market price," he said.
