LTU Packages 3B, 3C Get Temporary Road Works Ahead Of CNY

GUA MUSANG, Feb 2 (Bernama) -- Routine works, including grass cutting and pothole repairs, are being carried out at the Central Spine Road (LTU) Project Packages 3B and 3C as a temporary measure to ease traffic congestion ahead of the Chinese New Year holiday period.

Works Minister Datuk Seri  Alexander Nanta Linggi said the works are being undertaken by Roadcare (M) Sdn Bhd along Persiaran Raya near Taman Wangi to improve road conditions and provide greater comfort for motorists.

He said the short-term measures are aimed at reducing congestion of nearly two kilometres, which frequently occurs along the route during festive seasons and school holidays, while the government prepares a long-term solution.

“We are aware of the traffic congestion in this area. For now, we will improve the road conditions before assessing the need for further funding and follow-up action,” he told reporters after inspecting the LTU Packages 3B and 3C project site here today.

For the longer term, Nanta said pavement maintenance works will be carried out by the Public Works Department through a quotation process expected to begin in March.

He added that the previous contractor for the project was terminated in accordance with procedures after it was found that an additional allocation of about RM90 million was required to fully complete LTU Packages 3B and 3C.

“We have submitted a request for additional funding to the Ministry of Economy and are awaiting a decision. We hope the process can be expedited so that a new contractor can be appointed and the project completed within the stipulated timeframe,” he said.

Previously, it was reported that users of the Gua Musang–Kuala Lipis road claimed that incomplete works on LTU Packages 3B, 3C and 3D had resulted in unusually severe congestion, particularly during school holidays.
