Relief Centre Opened To House 310 Victims Of Fire In Tawau

TAWAU, Feb 2 (Bernama) -- A relief centre was opened at Dewan Serbaguna Kompleks Sukan Tawau here at 5 pm to house victims of a fire that affected 40 houses in Kampung Titingan this morning.

Tawau district disaster management committee chairman Mohd Shoffian Mohd Said said Tawau was declared a fire disaster area due to the fire.

"The declaration is based on the report and information from the field received from agencies in the committee,” he said in a statement here today.

Meanwhile the Sabah state disaster management committee said that 310 victims involving 70 heads of household were affected by the fire.

The current victims are 104 men, 102 women, 50 boys and 54 girls and the number is expected to rise, the committee said.
