RAMALLAH, Feb 2 (Bernama-WAFA) -- President Mahmoud Abbas has issued a presidential decree calling on the Palestinian people, both in the homeland and in the diaspora, to participate in the elections for the Palestinian National Council on Nov 1, Palestine News and Info Agency (WAFA) reported.

The presidential decree stipulates that the elections will be held wherever possible, both inside and outside Palestine, to ensure the broadest possible participation of the Palestinian people wherever they reside.

The elections will be conducted according to the principle of full proportional representation, guaranteeing fair representation for all segments of the Palestinian people, including women, youth, and Palestinian communities abroad.

The Central Elections Commission will have full oversight of the electoral process.

Abbas also set May 14 as the date for the Eighth General Conference of the Palestinian National Liberation Movement (Fatah), to be held in Ramallah.

The Cabinet had previously set the date for local elections in Palestine for April 25.
