WASHINGTON, June 9 (Bernama-dpa) -- A US court on Monday overturned US President Donald Trump's US$100,000 fee on H-1B visa applications, reported German Press Agency dpa.
H-1B is a work visa that allows US companies to bring highly skilled employees, such as programmers, into the country for several years.
The Trump administration introduced the US$100,000 fee in September 2025. Previously, the visa cost only a few thousand dollars in processing fees.
The federal court in Massachusetts ruled that the Trump administration interfered in an area that is actually reserved for Congress. The ruling is not yet legally binding. According to US media reports, the Trump administration intends to appeal.
The Trump administration has argued that in the past, the application process for the visa had been deliberately exploited to replace US workers with lower-paid foreign workers. Several states sued against the increase, fearing a shortage of personnel, for example in healthcare.
