RIYADH, May 30 (Bernama-SPA) -- Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Municipalities and Housing, represented by the Holy Makkah Municipality, has announced the successful execution of its operational plan for the 1447 AH Haj season, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.
The plan was implemented by a specialised workforce of over 22,000 personnel and supported by 3,000 pieces of equipment and machinery operating around the clock across Makkah and the holy sites.
Ministry spokesman Mohammed Al Rasasimah said cleaning and environmental sanitation efforts resulted in the removal of more than 250,000 tonnes of waste in Makkah since Zulkaedah 15, averaging over 6,000 tonnes daily.
Additionally, more than 16,000 tonnes of waste were cleared from the holy sites, averaging over 200 tonnes per day.
Specialised teams conducted more than 38,000 inspection visits to catering kitchens and food establishments in Makkah and the holy sites, testing over 5,000 food samples through field and fixed laboratories.
No cases of food poisoning were recorded during the entire 1447 AH Haj season.
The season also saw the participation of more than 21,000 male and female volunteers who supported field, organisational and awareness services.
Their efforts included providing guidance, managing crowds and distributing water, umbrellas and gifts to enhance the overall experience of pilgrims.
