DJIBOUTI, April 11 (Bernama-QNA) -- Djibouti's President, Ismail Omar Guelleh, has been re-elected for a sixth term after securing 97.8 per cent of the vote, according to official results, Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported.
Figures released by the Djibouti Ministry of the Interior showed his sole challenger, Mohamed Farah Samatar, received 2.2 per cent.
Guelleh, 78, has led the strategically located Horn of Africa nation since 1999 and won more than 97 per cent of the vote in the previous election in 2021.
Voting took place on Friday in what was Djibouti's ninth presidential election since independence in 1977, with nearly 250,000 registered voters eligible to cast ballots for a five-year term.
