MANILA, April 11 (Bernama-PNA) -- The Philippines is among seven “priority countries” for new United States (US) international food assistance programmes, the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced Friday.
No funding details have been released, but Manila joins Bangladesh, Bolivia, Ecuador, Morocco, Sri Lanka and Thailand under the USDA’s Food for Progress programme, the Philippine News Agency (PNA) reported.
The programme, implemented by the USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS), works with eligible organisations through cooperative agreements to carry out field-based projects that support agricultural, economic, and infrastructure development while promoting US trade.
For fiscal year 2026, the programme expects to award up to US$226 million in new agreements for five-year projects worth US$28 million to US$35 million each.
These projects are primarily financed through the sale of US agricultural commodities in host-country markets.
