ISLAMABAD, April 9 (Bernama-Xinhua) -- Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday thanked United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres for endorsing Islamabad's efforts to promote peace following the announcement of a ceasefire between the United States and Iran, reported Xinhua.
"Thank you Secretary General Antonio Guterres for your kind endorsement of Pakistan's sincere efforts for peace," the prime minister said in a post on X.
Earlier, Guterres welcomed the announcement of a two-week ceasefire between the US and Iran and expressed appreciation for Pakistan and other countries involved in facilitating the truce.
Pakistan is set to host the "Islamabad Talks" between the two countries aimed at easing tensions in West Asia.
According to Iranian Students' News Agency, Iran's Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf will lead a negotiating team for talks with US Vice President JD Vance in Islamabad.
