JAKARTA, Feb 26 (Bernama) -- Indonesia reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening diplomatic ties with Jordan, seeking closer coordination and expanded cooperation in support of Palestine and broader regional stability.
President Prabowo Subianto said 2026 marked a historic milestone for both countries as they commemorated 75 years of diplomatic relations, describing Jordan as an important partner and Indonesia’s logistics hub in the Middle East.
“Over this period, bilateral ties have continued to develop constructively across several strategic sectors, ranging from politics and defence to the economy and education," he said in a statement issued by the Press, Media, and Information Bureau of the Presidential Secretariat on Wednesday night.
In his introductory remarks during a bilateral meeting with Jordan’s King Abdullah II Al Hussein at Basman Palace on Wednesday, Prabowo emphasised the need to enhance strategic coordination, particularly in responding to the humanitarian situation in Gaza and developments in the West Bank.
He expressed appreciation for Jordan’s continued support and highlighted the kingdom’s strategic position as the country closest to Gaza, noting that this is an important factor in strengthening coordination between the two countries.
“So thank you very much, Your Majesty, for the kind offer of support for our contingent. We hope to establish close coordination and cooperation, as you are closest to the issue in Gaza,” he said.
Prabowo further conveyed Indonesia’s deep concern over the situation in the West Bank, noting its potential impact on stabilisation and humanitarian efforts in Gaza.
Reaffirming Indonesia’s commitment to contributing to sustainable peace in the Middle East, the President stressed that Jakarta stands ready to undertake concrete efforts to help achieve a lasting resolution to the Palestinian conflict.
“Yes, Indonesia is committed to doing whatever we can to achieve a lasting solution and in our view, the only truly sustainable solution is a two-state solution with an independent Palestine,” he said.
Prabowo explained that Indonesia’s involvement in the Board of Peace, as well as its support for a 20-point plan initiated by United States President Donald Trump, forms part of Indonesia’s active contribution toward seeking a long-term solution to the conflict.
He also underscored that Indonesia and Jordan share common views with other countries in the region in promoting regional stability and conflict resolution, stressing the importance of close institutional coordination to ensure a comprehensive understanding and timely responses to developments.
“Therefore, we want to strengthen and enhance this cooperation. I think my team will work very closely with your team so that we are always in a position to fully understand the situation. We will know exactly what will happen,” he said.
