At Least Seven People Died In US Due To Cold Weather - Reports

MOSCOW, Jan 26 (Bernama-Sputnik/RIA Novosti) -- At least seven people have died in the United States in recent days amid freezing temperatures, Sputnik/RIA Novosti reported, citing CNN.

CNN compiled weather-related death statements from several states.

Kirk Watson, the mayor of Austin, Texas, reported the death of a person as a result of a storm.

Two people have died from hypothermia in Louisiana as a result of a storm this weekend, the channel reported, citing data from the state's health department.

According to the National Weather Service, heavy snowfall and dangerous ice are expected across the region from east Texas to North Carolina.

At least 21 states have declared states of emergency.

Public schools in New York City will be closed on Monday.

US President Donald Trump called the snowfall "historic".
