Report Places Indonesia Among World's Safest Nations: Polri Chief

JAKARTA, Dec 30 (Bernama-ANTARA) -- Indonesia has been recognised among the world's safest countries in Gallup's 2025 Global Safety Report, ranking 19th in the Law and Order Index and 25th globally for the share of citizens who feel safe walking alone at night, reported ANTARA news agency.

National Police (Polri) Chief Gen. Listyo Sigit Prabowo highlighted the achievement as a reflection of public trust in the force during a year-end briefing at Polri Headquarters in Jakarta on Tuesday.

He said the report, based on responses from around 145,000 adults across 144 countries and territories in 2024, gave Indonesia a score of 89 on the Law and Order Index.

The score placed Indonesia above Japan and the United States (US), which recorded scores of 86 and 84, respectively, he added.

Listyo said 83 per cent of respondents in Indonesia reported feeling safe walking alone at night, ranking the country 25th globally, while Singapore topped the list with 98 per cent.

"This data shows that Indonesia enjoys a solid level of safety and security, directly experienced by communities," he said.

Referring to domestic data, the police chief said a survey released in November 2025 by the Kompas Research and Development Division ranked Polri among the three institutions with the highest public trust.

He added that Polri ranked first as the most trusted law enforcement institution, with an approval rating of 78.2 per cent.

"These achievements provide a morale boost for our institution and personnel to continue serving the public in a more professional and accountable manner," Listyo said.

Despite the progress, he urged officers to avoid complacency and called for continuous improvement and evaluation to sustain institutional reform.

"The high level of public trust in Polri is valuable capital for us to continue protecting and serving the people," he added.
