TEHRAN, Dec 13 (Bernama-IRNA) -- Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have underscored the need for stronger coordination on regional developments, as well as the full implementation of agreements between the two neighbours.

According to the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), Pezeshkian and Sharif met on the sidelines of the International Conference of Peace and Trust in Turkmenistan.

During the meeting on Friday, the two officials reviewed the latest state of Iran–Pakistan relations and stressed the importance of strengthening joint initiatives.

They also highlighted the extensive capacities of both countries in transportation, transit and the development of border infrastructure, emphasising the need to move forward with the agreements finalised during Pezeshkian’s recent visit to Islamabad.

Both sides underscored that expanding transport routes, facilitating trade movement and enhancing economic cooperation are essential prerequisites for deepening bilateral ties.

Regional issues were also discussed, with Pezeshkian and Sharif emphasising the importance of closer coordination within shared regional initiatives.

The Iranian president and the Pakistani prime minister pointed to the two nations’ historical, cultural and geographic bonds as a solid foundation for cooperation.

They also identified energy, trade, border security, the development of border markets and the strengthening of people-to-people ties as key areas that could significantly contribute to regional stability and prosperity.

The two sides expressed hope that the implementation of bilateral agreements would progress with greater speed and coherence, paving the way for an even stronger partnership as Iran and Pakistan continue to enhance their growing relationship.
