KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 8 (Bernama) -- Azerbaijan’s Embassy in Malaysia marked Victory Day and National Flag Day, two of the nation’s most significant commemorations symbolising unity, sovereignty, and national pride in a celebration on Friday evening.

Victory Day which is observed annually on Nov 8, commemorates the liberation of Shusha, the cultural capital of Azerbaijan, by the Azerbaijani Armed Forces in 2020 after nearly 29 years under Armenian occupation.

The second event, National Flag Day is celebrated annually on Nov 9 since 2009 to commemorate the adoption of Azerbaijan’s tricolour flag, serves as a reminder of the country’s historical journey from independence to statehood, resilience, and renewal.

Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Malaysia,  Irfan Davudov, in his speech, described the events as “historic and among the most significant in the modern history of the Azerbaijan.

Highlighting recent developments, Davudov expressed optimism about the peace process with Armenia, noting that on March 13, 2025, both nations agreed on the main terms of a peace agreement, and on August 8, 2025, signed a Joint Declaration on Future Relations in Washington, D.C., mediated by the United States (US).

The ambassador said that this agreement, along with the proposed “Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP)” transport corridor linking mainland Azerbaijan with the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, represents “a new era of cooperation, peace, and regional development.”

The ambassador also thanked members of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), of which Malaysia is also a member, for their solidarity during Azerbaijan’s struggle for sovereignty.
