Malaysia Marks National Sports Day With ASEAN Bowling Tournament In Kazakhstan

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 12 (Bernama) -- A total of 60 participants competed in a friendly bowling tournament on Oct 11 to mark Malaysia's National Sports Day in Astana, Kazakhstan, bringing together four ASEAN embassies under the Astana ASEAN Committee – Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam.

In a statement on Sunday (Oct 12), the Embassy of Malaysia in Astana said the event combined sports and diplomacy, strengthening camaraderie and cooperation among the ASEAN diplomatic community and also served as an informal platform for diplomats and their families in a relaxed and friendly setting.

The Ambassadors of Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand, as well as the Chargé d'Affaires a.i. of Vietnam, also took part in the friendly tournament.

According to the Embassy, the programme began with welcoming remarks by the Ambassador of Malaysia to Kazakhstan, Mohd Adli Abdullah, who highlighted the power of sports diplomacy in fostering friendship and unity.

He also conveyed appreciation to the ASEAN embassies for their enthusiastic participation and strong support. 

The Embassy said the tournament unfolded in a lively and spirited atmosphere, culminating in a prize-giving ceremony and fellowship dinner.

It added that through organising National Sports Day activities abroad, Malaysia continues to promote healthy and active lifestyles among Malaysians and ASEAN partners alike, while reinforcing the spirit of unity and inclusivity.

The Embassy looks forward to expanding future events to include other diplomatic missions and the wider international community in Kazakhstan.
