BERLIN, Oct 1 (Bernama-dpa) -- The Volkswagen group has already dismissed more than 500 employees this year for misconduct, the German carmaker confirmed on Tuesday, reported German Press Agency (dpa).
The reasons for the firings included unexcused absences and breaches of rules, a group spokesperson said on enquiry, confirming a report in the German daily newspaper Bild.
Referring to an internal publication, the tabloid had reported that 548 employees worldwide were dismissed in the first half of this year for breaching rules.
According to the report, more than 300 employees have already been dismissed at the core VW brand in 2025.
VW introduced internal statistics on warnings and dismissals as a part of measures that the carmaker introduced as a result of the diesel emissions scandal that erupted in 2015.
