Iran’s NPT Withdrawal Depends On Future Developments - Envoy

18/06/2025 04:20 PM

TEHRAN, June 18 (Bernama-MNA) -- Iran’s decision on whether to remain a party to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) will depend on the evolving developments of the ongoing conflict, Mehr News Agency reported.

According to the country’s envoy to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Reza Najafi, in an interview with Al Mayadeen TV Network, said that discussions regarding a possible withdrawal from the treaty remain contingent on the evolving situation.

“The decision to withdraw from the NPT or not depends on upcoming developments,” he said.

He also called for continued engagement with the IAEA’s Board of Governors on matters related to regional security and non-proliferation.

Tensions have escalated sharply since June 13, when Israel launched coordinated airstrikes and drone attacks on multiple sites across Iran, including military and nuclear facilities, prompting retaliatory strikes from Tehran.
