PUTRAJAYA, June 12 (Bernama) -- No Malaysians have been reported to be affected by the ongoing protests in Los Angeles, the Foreign Ministry said on Thursday.
It said the Consulate General of Malaysia in Los Angeles is closely monitoring the situation following widespread demonstrations that have led local authorities to enforce a night-time curfew in parts of the city.
The ministry also urged Malaysians in Los Angeles and surrounding areas to remain vigilant, comply with local laws, and stay informed through reliable sources.
“A curfew has been declared in a one-square-mile area around downtown Los Angeles from 8 pm to 6 am, and law enforcement is making arrests for violations.
“The Consulate General’s chancery building, located within the curfew zone, remains open and continues to operate as usual,” said the statement.
It noted that as weekend rallies tend to attract larger crowds, Malaysians should take additional precautions during such times.
Malaysians have also been advised to stay away from active protest sites and areas with heightened tensions, and to be prepared for potential traffic disruptions, including freeway closures.
“Given the rapidly evolving nature of the situation, it is crucial to stay informed via local news for real-time updates,” added the statement.
Malaysians in the affected areas are strongly encouraged to register with the Consulate General to ensure they receive timely updates and assistance if required.
For consular assistance, the Consulate General of Malaysia in Los Angeles can be contacted at +1-213-892 1238 during office hours, or +1-626-630 8090 after office hours. Enquiries may also be sent via email to mwlosangeles@kln.gov.my.
The ministry said it will continue to monitor developments and provide updates when necessary.
