CAMBODIA 

1. STUDY ON CANAL LINKING UPPER MEKONG TO TONLE SAP -- AGENCE KAMPUCHEA PRESSE 

The Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology and the Korea International Cooperation Agency will conduct a feasibility study to construct a canal from the Upper Mekong River to the Tonle Sap Lake. It is to ensure sufficient water distribution to the agricultural sector.

 

2. FAIR PRICING TO PROTECT FARMERS, CONSUMERS -- AGENCE KAMPUCHEA PRESSE

Prime Minister Hun Manet urged the government to address agricultural product pricing so farmers and consumers are not impacted by price fluctuations in the market. He wants more locally produced goods in the market and less imports.

1. MINISTER BAHLIL: ENERGY SECTOR TO CREATE 6.2 MLN JOBS BY 2030 -- JAKARTA GLOBE

Indonesia has the potential to create approximately 6.2 million direct jobs by 2030 across three key energy-related sectors: electricity, minerals and coal, and the electric vehicle ecosystem, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia said on Tuesday.

2. TOURIST LOANS FOR OUTBOUND TRAVELLERS -- THE GLOBAL NEW LIGHT OF MYANMAR 

Tour companies have introduced innovative plans to encourage outbound tourism. Travellers can now obtain loans to tour international destinations and pay later. The loans can be repaid over a six to 12-month period in instalments.

1. SMRT TO BE FINED $3M FOR MAJOR EAST-WEST LINE DISRUPTION IN SEPTEMBER 2024 -- THE STRAITS TIMES

Rail operator SMRT will be fined $3 million for a major six-day disruption on the East-West Line (EWL) in September 2024, said the Land Transport Authority (LTA) on June 3.

1. HEFTY PENALTY FOR SEX SELECTION OF BABIES -- VIETNAMPLUS

The Health Ministry is proposing to increase the penalty for individuals or organisations involved in selecting a baby’s sex through medical intervention. The proposed new fine is RM17,000  (US$4,000) for illegal gender-selective practices during pregnancy.

 

2. FIRST ECO-FRIENDLY RICE SHIPMENT TO JAPAN -- VIETNAMPLUS

Vietnam will export its first shipment of environment-friendly rice to Japan on June 5. It is part of the “Sustainable Development of One Million Hectares of High-Quality, Low-Emission Rice Associated with Green Growth in the Mekong Delta by 2030” project.
