Malaysian Envoy Visits Republic Of The Congo To Strengthen Ties

KUALA LUMPUR, May 28 (Bernama) -- Malaysia’s Charge d’Affaires to Namibia, Datuk Dr Mohamad Rameez Yahaya, whose mission also covers the Democratic Republic of the Congo (Kinshasa), and the Republic of the Congo, has concluded a four-day working visit to the Republic of the Congo to engage with Malaysian citizens and strengthen bilateral ties.

During the visit, which began on Sunday (May 25) and included stops in the republic’s capital Brazzaville and Pointe Noire, Mohamad Rameez, among others, met with the country’s top officials,  Malaysian business leaders and workers.

In Brazzaville, Mohamad Rameez met with the newly appointed Honorary Consul of Malaysia to the Republic of the Congo, Claide Ngayino, and they discussed ways to improve the visa application process to enable more Congolese to visit Malaysia, according to a statement issued here on Wednesday. 

Mohamad Rameez also met Ambassador Tsoula Adrian of the Ministry of External Relations, and Ambassador Simeon Ewongo of the Ministry of International Cooperation.

Discussions focused on facilitating visa applications, enhancing people-to-people exchanges, and advancing pending bilateral agreements to boost trade and investment, according to the statement.

In Pointe Noire, Mohamad Rameez met Malaysians working with Taman Industries Ltd, a timber company employing over 400 workers mostly Malaysians, and led by Sarawakian Kong Ing Yee.

Located in Hida near Pointe Noire, Taman Industries exports mainly finished timber products to Europe and also exports building blocks to China.

The Republic of the Congo, home to several Malaysian investments including Taman Industries and Sapura, has a population of 5.7 million.
