Over 44 Million Eligible to Vote in South Korea’s June 3 Presidential Election

SEOUL, May 23 (Bernama-Yonhap) -- A total of 44.39 million South Koreans are eligible to vote in the 21st presidential election scheduled for June 3, Yonhap news agency reported.

The figure is based on the finalised electoral roll as of Thursday, the Interior Ministry announced on Friday.

Of the total, 44.13 million are domestic voters, while the remainder are registered to vote from overseas. This marks an increase of 194,179 voters compared to the previous presidential election in 2022.

By gender, 21.97 million, or 49.5 per cent, are men, while women make up the remaining portion of the electorate.

In terms of age distribution, voters in their 50s comprise the largest group at 19.6 per cent, followed by those in their 60s at 17.7 per cent, and those aged 70 and above at 15.4 per cent.

Voters aged 60 and over account for 33.1 per cent of the total, outnumbering the combined 28 per cent share of voters in their 20s and 30s.

Regionally, Gyeonggi Province leads with 26.4 per cent of eligible voters, followed by Seoul at 18.7 per cent and Busan at 6.5 per cent.
