Holy Kaaba’s Kiswa Raised In Annual Hajj Preparation

14/05/2025 05:51 PM

MAKKAH, May 14 (Bernama-SPA) -- The General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque has elevated the lower part of the Holy Kaaba’s Kiswa (black cover) by three metres in preparation for this year’s Hajj season, 1446 AH, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

The process involves dismantling the lower parts, separating the corners, raising the Kiswa, and fixing it at a height of three metres.

The raised portion is then covered with a two-metre-wide white cotton cloth on all sides, and the lamps are returned to their places.

This annual procedure is part of preserving the Kiswa and protecting it from touch or damage, especially during the intense circumambulation in close proximity to the Holy Kaaba during the Hajj season.

The raising process was carried out by specialised teams, following precise procedures that respect the sanctity of the site and adhere to the highest standards of safety and professionalism.

This is an annual custom, reflecting the meticulous organisation and comprehensive preparations for receiving pilgrims.

This step is part of a series of extensive measures undertaken by the relevant authorities to ensure the comfort and safety of pilgrims and to create a spiritual atmosphere for performing the rituals with ease and tranquillity.
