Moscow Preparing for Russian-Malaysian Talks, Attaches Great Importance to Them: Kremlin

MOSCOW, May 13 (Bernama-Sputnik) -- The Kremlin has confirmed that preparations are under way for Russian-Malaysian talks, with Moscow placing high importance on the upcoming engagements, Sputnik quoted Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

“We will make an official announcement soon. I can only say that yes, indeed, we are preparing for Russian-Malaysian negotiations and contacts, and attach great importance to them,” Peskov told reporters on Monday.

Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is scheduled to make an official visit to Russia from May 13 to 16, beginning in Moscow before travelling to Kazan, in the Republic of Tatarstan, on May 15 to attend the XVI International Economic Forum “Russia-Islamic World: KazanForum.”

According to the Malaysia’s Foreign Ministry, widely known as Wisma Putra, the visit reflects Malaysia’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Russia and expanding cooperation within regional and multilateral platforms such as ASEAN and BRICS.

“In Moscow, the Prime Minister will hold high-level meetings with President Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin to take stock of bilateral ties and explore cooperation in areas including trade and investment, agriculture and agri-commodities, education, aerospace, and energy,” Wisma Putra said in a statement.

The leaders are also expected to exchange views on key regional and global developments of mutual concern.

Wisma Putra added that, as Malaysia prepares to assume the ASEAN Chairmanship in 2025, the visit will also serve to identify avenues to deepen engagement under the ASEAN–Russia Dialogue Partnership framework, Bernama reported.
