1.MANET SAYS MEDIA A PILLAR IN NATION BUILDING -- FRESH NEWS

Prime Minister Hun Manet urged the local media to actively promote Cambodia to the global community. He said the media is in the best position to portray a positive image of the country and contribute to nation-building.

 

 2.HUN SEN TO VISIT INDONESIA, TIMOR-LESTE -- AGENCE KAMPUCHEA PRESSE

Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen will meet leaders and speak at the ASEAN Secretariat and the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia during his three-day visit to Indonesia starting Monday. He will visit Timor-Leste from  May 7 to 9.

1.MINISTER INVITES ENTREPRENEURS, WORKERS TO DISCUSS LAYOFF ISSUE -- ANTARA

Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment, Muhaimin Iskandar, has invited entrepreneurs and workers to sit together and discuss alternative solutions for layoffs. At the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Saturday, he said that the problems of layoffs and outsourcing of work systems require a holistic solution.

 

2.CHINESE TOURIST’S FINAL DIVE CAPTURED ON GOPRO BEFORE FATAL INCIDENT -- JAKARTA GLOBE

A 30-year-old Chinese tourist who went missing while diving off Kakaban Island in East Kalimantan has been found dead, authorities said Saturday. The victim, identified as Zhang Xiao Han, was reported missing after she dove into the sea to retrieve her GoPro camera, which had fallen into the water following a recreational diving trip near the island.

 

MYANMAR

 

1.FIRST QR CODE PAYMENT INTRODUCED -- THE GLOBAL NEW LIGHT OF MYANMAR

Myanmar’s first QR code system is adopted at the Bago River-Crossing Thanlyin Bridge 3 to collect tolls. Drivers can pay in cash or use the QR system. The Thanlyin Bridge 3 links Yangon and Thilawa Special Economic Zone.

 

2.FISHING MORATORIUM TO PROTECT MARINE RESOURCES -- THE GLOBAL NEW LIGHT OF MYANMAR

The Department of Fisheries has implemented a three-month stop to the fishing season from May to July.  Offshore fishing trawlers must cease operations to protect fish species and marine resources. Inshore trawlers and boats are allowed to operate.

1.GE2025: PAP GETS 65.57 PER CENT OF VOTES IN LANDSLIDE WIN -- THE STRAITS TIMES

Singaporeans have returned the PAP to power with 65.57 per cent of the popular vote, a commanding swing from its 61.24 per cent share in the last general election.

In an election held amid global economic uncertainties, the People’s Action Party (PAP) returned to government in a stunning victory, winning 87 out of 97 seats - or almost 90 per cent of the seats - and staving off challenges from the Workers’ Party (WP) without conceding any new ground to its rivals.

1.FIRST VIETNAMESE PAINTING SOLD IN LONDON AUCTION -- VIETNAM NEWS

A painting by Vu Cao Dam, an influential 20th-century Vietnamese artist’s painting, was sold at RM255,600 (US$60,000) at a London auction on May 2. His “Property of a Lady of Title” was the first Vietnamese artwork ever auctioned at the house.

 

2.ETHNIC CULTURAL EVENTS TO PROMOTE DIVERSITY -- VIETNAMPLUS

A series of cultural events will be held through May to recognise the country’s diverse ethnic minorities. The events will mark the 135th birth anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh and the 71st anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory.
