CAMBODIA 

 

1.ASEAN-US TO WORK ON A RANGE OF AREAS -- FRESH NEWS 

The just-concluded 37th ASEAN-US Dialogue, held in Siem Reap, discussed an array of topics, from trade, investments, and the digital economy to enhancing cybersecurity cooperation. Both parties also underscored expanding private-sector collaboration to foster deeper trade and investment.

 

2.OPEN DIALOGUE HELP CAMBODIA-THAI TIES TO GROW -- AGENCE KAMPUCHEA PRESSE 

National Assembly President Khuon Sudary said the Cambodia-Thailand strategic partnership has flourished through open dialogue. While welcoming Thailand Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, Sudary said Paetongtarn’s visit marked another significant milestone for the bilateral ties.

 

 

INDONESIA

 

1.BI KEEPS RATE UNCHANGED AMID FLAGGING RUPIAH -- THE JAKARTA POST

Bank Indonesia (BI) has decided to keep its key interest rates in place as the rupiah remains weak, and noted that mounting global pressure stemming from trade disruption threatens Indonesia’s economic growth.

 

2.JUDGE STASHED US$360,000 IN BRIBE MONEY UNDER MATTRESS, AGO REVEALS -- JAKARTA GLOBE

Investigators have uncovered US$360,000 in cash hidden under a mattress at the home of a Jakarta judge who is currently in custody for allegedly accepting bribes in a major corruption case, the Attorney General’s Office (AGO) announced on Wednesday.

 

 

LAOS

 

1.THAI PRINCESS OPENS SCHOOL, AGRICULTURE CENTRE -- VIENTIANE TIMES 

Thai Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn opened a new conference building at the Public Security and Cultural School and a training centre at the Huay Xon-Huay Xua Agricultural Development and Service Centre. The school promotes self-sufficiency in agricultural and animal husbandry activities.

 

2.RUSSIA DONATES FISH FOR LAO STUDENTS -- VIENTIANE TIMES

The United Nations World Food Programme announced that Russia has donated 149 metric tonnes of canned fish. The fish will be used to prepare nutritious meals for 50,000 primary school students in 13 food-insecure districts in northern Laos. 

 

 

MYANMAR

 

1.NATIONAL MUSEUM UNAFFECTED BY EARTHQUAKE -- THE GLOBAL NEW LIGHT OF MYANMAR 

Officials said the gallery exhibits and displays in the Historical Period (11th-14th century AD) in the National Museum in Nay Pyi were not damaged by the March 28 earthquake. Pagoda replicas, sandstone statues and the three iconic pagodas of Bagan are intact. 

 

2.PADDY CULTIVATION SURGES IN YANGON --THE GLOBAL NEW LIGHT OF MYANMAR 

Summer paddy cultivation covering 267,078 acres in Yangon Region, exceeded the target of 250,896 acres for this season. The Department of Agriculture is assisting the farmers in ploughing and cultivating, enriching the soil, treating farmland and improving soil fertility.

A fire broke out at the renowned Dhara Dhevi Hotel in Chiang Mai province in the early hours of Wednesday (April 23). Firefighters and rescue teams worked swiftly to contain the flames within a limited area, and there are no initial reports of injuries or fatalities.

 

2. CAMBODIA TIES GET BOOST -- BANGKOK POST

Thailand and Cambodia have vowed to increase bilateral trade to US$ 5 billion within the next two years, Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra said.

Vietnam emphasised that its defence cooperation with India is crucial and has grown over the years. The country values the friendship between the two nations, particularly the relationship between their armed forces. India is seen as a close, reliable, and trustworthy partner.

 

2.HEAVY VEHICLES RESTRICTED FROM HO CHI MINH - - VIETNAMPLUS

Authorities have banned trucks from entering Ho Chi Minh City to prepare for the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day celebrations to ensure safety. The national commemoration event will take place on April 30.
