EGYPT CONDEMNS ISRAELI MILITARY OPERATIONS IN RAFAH, URGES INTERNATIONAL INTERVENTION

07/05/2024 08:54 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, May 7 (Bernama) -- Egypt has condemned in the strongest terms the Israeli military operations in the Palestinian city of Rafah.

Egypt also underscored the gravity of this development, emphasising its potential to endanger the lives of over a million Palestinians who rely heavily on the Rafah crossing as their primary gateway to the outside world, according to its Ministry of Foreign Affairs’s statement, shared through its embassy here on Tuesday.

The crossing serves as a vital lifeline for the Gaza Strip, facilitating the exit of the wounded and sick for medical treatment and enabling the entry of crucial humanitarian and relief aid to the besieged Palestinian population.

“The Arab Republic of Egypt called on the Israeli side to exercise the utmost levels of restraint, and to stay away from a policy of brinkmanship that has long-term impact, and that would threaten the fate of the strenuous efforts made to reach a sustainable truce inside the Gaza Strip,” said the statement.

Egypt called upon all influential international actors to intervene swiftly and exert the necessary pressure to de-escalate the current crisis.

It emphasised the imperative of allowing diplomatic efforts to proceed unhindered, ensuring that they yield the desired outcomes aimed at restoring peace and stability to the region, added the statement.
