MOSCOW, May 7 (Bernama-Sputnik) -- Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said external forces are trying to influence the course of elections in India, but they will not succeed, reported Sputnik.

"I can see that there is an attempt that the world is trying to influence our elections. They are not just giving their opinions but trying to influence our elections but they will not be successful. The people of India will not get influenced," Modi was quoted as saying by the Times Now broadcaster.

Elections to the lower house of the Indian parliament are being held from April 19 to June 1.
