KUALA LUMPUR, May 21 (Bernama) -- From shimmering songket threads to vividly crafted batik motifs, Malaysia’s cultural splendour came alive in Doha through the “Timeless Charms of Malaysia’s Batik & Songket” showcase that drew guests in Qatar into the heart of the nation’s heritage.

Held at the Andaz Hotel on May 17, the showcase celebrated Batik and Songket as among Malaysia’s most treasured cultural heritage elements while highlighting the country’s vibrant traditions and warm hospitality through national cuisine, cultural performances and fashion presentations.

“Batik, in particular, continues to hold a special place in Malaysian identity and cultural diplomacy,” the Embassy of Malaysia in Qatar said in a statement to Bernama on Thursday.

The programme was jointly organised by the embassy and the Ladies Association of the Embassy (PERWAKILAN DOHA) as part of efforts to promote Malaysia’s rich cultural heritage, strengthen people-to-people ties and support Visit Malaysia 2026.

“The programme reflected Malaysia’s long-standing values of harmony in diversity and multicultural coexistence,” the embassy said.

The showcase also served as a platform to promote Visit Malaysia 2026, the national tourism campaign aimed at welcoming 35 million tourists while attracting more visitors from Qatar and the wider region to experience Malaysia’s rich culture, natural beauty, world-class hospitality and diverse culinary traditions.

Prior to the event, Malaysia’s Ambassador to Qatar Faizal Razali held discussions with Qatar’s Heritage and Identity Department Director Sheikha Najla Faisal Al-Thani on tourism collaboration and cooperation in preserving cultural heritage.

Among those present were members of the Spouses of Heads of Mission in Qatar (SOHOM), the diplomatic corps, representatives from the Qatar Women Association and the international community in Qatar.

Guests were treated to Malaysian cuisine, traditional dance performances and cultural showcases inspired by the country’s diverse ethnic communities, offering a glimpse into Malaysia’s unique cultural tapestry.

Malaysia and Qatar continue to enjoy warm, close and productive relations, underpinned by excellent engagements at the leadership level and growing cooperation in trade, investment, tourism, education and people-to-people exchanges.
