Malaysia Strongly Condemns Zionist Israel’s Interception of GSF, Demands Release of 25 Malaysians

KUALA LUMPUR, May 19 (Bernama) -- Malaysia has strongly condemned the Zionist Israeli regime’s interception and detention of the members and crew of the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) in international waters off the coast of Cyprus, while they were undertaking a peaceful humanitarian mission bound for Gaza on May 18, 2026.

“The actions of the Zionist Israeli regime constitute a blatant violation of international law, including international maritime law, international humanitarian law and international human rights law,” said the Malaysian Foreign Ministry, widely known as Wisma Putra, in a statement on Tuesday.

Malaysia demands the immediate and unconditional release of all detained Flotilla members and the crew, including the 25 Malaysians and their vessels, as well as the safety of the other remaining members and crew aboard the Flotilla vessels, Wisma Putra stressed.

“Malaysia calls upon the United Nations Security Council and the international community to hold Israel accountable for its continued violations of international law and attacks against humanitarian missions,” it added.

Malaysia remains steadfast in its solidarity with the Palestinian people and in supporting all genuine efforts towards achieving a just, comprehensive and lasting peace, including the establishment of an independent and sovereign State of Palestine based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
