WASHINGTON, April 22 (Bernama-Anadolu) -- Gen. Francis L. Donovan, commander of the United States Southern Command (SOUTHCOM), on Tuesday directed the establishment of a new unit focused on cutting-edge military capabilities, marking a step in the Pentagon’s push to integrate advanced technologies into regional operations, Anadolu Ajansi reported.

The newly announced SOUTHCOM Autonomous Warfare Command (SAWC) will be tasked with deploying autonomous, semi-autonomous and unmanned systems across land, sea, air, space and cyber domains.

The initiative is designed to align with priorities set out in the US national security and defence strategies, while strengthening cooperation with partner nations across Latin America and the Caribbean, according to a statement.

“From the seafloor to space and across the cyber domain, we fully intend to leverage the clear superiority of the American defence ecosystem by deploying cutting-edge innovation and working ever closer with our enduring partners in the region to outmatch those who threaten our collective peace and security,” Donovan said in the statement.
