KUALA LUMPUR, April 27 (Bernama) -- National squash ace S. Sivasangari described her triumph at the Grasshopper Cup 2026 in Zurich, Switzerland yesterday as sweet redemption after avenging last year’s final defeat.
The 27-year-old said the victory brought both relief and renewed confidence as it marked her second title of the season and served as a major booster moving forward.
“I’m just very happy and very relieved that I can make it through. Last year I lost in the final and this year I won the tournament
“This is my second title for the season and its a great confidence boost,” she said in a video shared by Professional Squash Association (PSA) on Facebook today.
In the final yesterday, Sivasangari reaffirmed her dominance over Japan’s Satomi Watanabe, securing a hard-fought 3-2 victory (15-13, 5-11, 5-11, 11-7, 11-8) in a 62-minute final.
Despite winning the first set, Sivasangari found herself trailing 1-2 after Watanabe took the second and third games but the Kedah-born star showed incredible resilience to sweep the final two sets and clinch the gold-level tournament title.
This triumph further cements Sivasangari’s dominance over the world number seven by extending her superior head-to-head record to seven wins in eight meetings.
